Defender Chassis/ Suspension Improvements

Why modify the suspension of your Land-Rover product?
When Land-Rover developed the suspension design for your vehicle they invested thousands of hours and vast sums of money to refine the characteristics of the suspension, a seminal part of Land-Rover capability. How, then, do JE justify changing it?

The reasons are as follows:
. Land-Rover make all their products capable of being driven over extremely rough terrain. This is achieved by using high spring rates and low anti-roll stiffness.
. The result of this off-road capability is a rather harsh ride on-road, and a tendency to roll too much when cornering at speed.
. The worst terrain most owners need to deal with are farm tracks and fields, thus the suspension of your vehicle is far from ideal for your personal needs.

At JE Engineering we have developed alternative parts to alter the suspension characteristics to better suit the average owner who does not need the legendary off-road capability of the standard product. Our normal package of modifications will give increased roll stiffness for better cornering stability, without changing spring rates. This improves grip and ride to more optimum levels for normal road use.

These changes require the use of premium quality dampers and in the past we have always used Koni products, having tested virtually all products available. However, we can now also strongly recommend the use of Fox Offroad Shocks.

These units, specially valved for JE, are of phenomenal quality featuring:

* seamless alloy steel body
* high-flow, large bore, damping piston that utilizes the highest quality valve shims available
* nitrogen gas pressurized to 200psi
* stainless steel shafts
* billet aluminum end-caps and eyelets
* fully rebuildable & revalvable

The Fox kit comprises remote reservoir rears, integral fronts. Not cheap but exceptional value for money.

The whole, whether Koni or Fox equipped,  gives a more comfortable ride, less roll (and pitch) and more confidence inspiring handling. Off-road capability will only be recognised as a little impaired by the dedicated off-road users and there is no performance sacrifice for conditions of snow, ice, mud and grass.

A Defender with the full JE modification has to be driven to be believed!
