Defender Wheels & Tyres

There is a huge range of options, good bad and indifferent, available for off-road vehicles so JE do not stock wheels. However, we strongly recommend and fit Silverline wheels to the majority of our modified Defenders, including the 'Zulu'

Our MD, Jonathan Douglas has this advice, ......"18 inch tyres for the Defender needs a bit of careful thought .
For fast road use, with normal or slightly lowered suspension, we recommend using tyre size 265/60 18. We have had good results with Hankook Ventus RH06, Kumho Ecsta KL12, and Goodyear Wrangler F1. The Kumhos are a bit more compliant for a comfortable ride, where the Hankooks and Goodyears are slightly sharper.
If a more beefed up look is required in a fast road pattern, Cooper make their Zeon XST in 285/55 18 size.
For Intermediate or Off -Road styles, Yokohama and Bridgestone make mud patterns in 265/60 18 and BF Goodrich make the excellent All Terrain tyre in 265/65 18. If the chassis has a 2 inch lift, the BFG All Terrain is available in 285/65 18. We have found this to be an excellent compromise for good on road manners with strong off road capapbility."

Well, there you have it!!  (or not, as the case may be!)

When fitting road tyres it should be borne in mind that the off-road capability of the vehicle will be impaired. Consult JE for impartial advice as to the suitability of your tyre choice.
